The person hired for the position of Automation Engineer will be a key resource for the 3M Northridge manufacturing plant. This individual will be a member of the Northridge Plant Engineering organization and will report directly to the Plant Engineering Manager.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Identify, design, implement, and lead various technical projects associated with facility and manufacturing equipment across all site businesses
Develop extensive high-level troubleshooting capabilities to provide tactical support for day-to-day manufacturing operations
Respond to daily business needs (safety, quality, service, cost) and all project activities with critical thinking while employing Lean Six Sigma methodologies
Identify, lead and collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve and improve equipment reliability and efficiency
Lead strategic improvement initiatives for the site
Support Systems Technicians with tactical projects and growth
Drive continuous improvement activities for the plant
Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum five (5) years of combined experience in engineering, manufacturing, and/or production in a private, public, government or military environment
Experience working with and programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
Minimum seven (7) years of project work focused on PLC programming, robotics, vision systems, serialization and/or automation experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated strength in engineering/technical skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, with effective communication skills both verbal and written, analytical and organizational skills to manage different priorities
Self-directed mindset that leads with high energy and works with minimal supervision or guidance
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency
Training and experience in Lean Six Sigma methodology
Experience working on a cross functional team
Microsoft Office proficient, Allen-Bradley a plus

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
